Sales of the Playstation Vita Defeated by PSP

TOKYO - The launch of the PS Vita premiere in Japan has been well received, although it was marred by bugs. Ironically, this time its sales declined compared to its predecessor, Playstation Portable (PSP).

At the festive opening weekend at the end of 2011, sales of 300,000 units through the PS Vita per week. However, the first week of January sales figures plummeted to 42,600 units.

These disappointing figures mean Vita should be ranked as Japan's fourth most popular game consoles, for the first week of January 2012, lagging far enough away from its rival, Nintendo 3DS sold to approximately 200,000 units in the same time frame. So proclaimed International Business Times, Friday (06/01/2012).

Playstation 3 occupy seat number two most popular gaming console, with sales of 67,000 units, and ironically, the PSP should be replaced by Vita, was in third place with sales of 63,000 units.

Although the most recent gaming consoles on the market, Vita PS accounted for only 10 percent of total sales of the console in Japan, in the first week of 2012.

Vita went on sale in Japan on December 17, sales reached 324,000 units in its first week. Second week dropped to 72,000 units, marking the fall of approximately 78 percent on the eve of Christmas when sales are expected to be at its highest point.

As for game sales, Nintendo stepped well and truly dominated by Mario Kart 7, which recently launched to 3DS, and slid into the top ranks of sales at 109,000 copies in first week of 2012.
